"I feel my process is often me dancing with precision and intuition until the work feels energetic on its own."

Baltimore born artist Emma Childs, has developed a style of painting exploring the way we exist in a self-constructed world. Childs’ work flitters between moments of disorder and the every-day, freedom and containment, isolation and contact. She hopes to evoke an emotional response from the viewer as well as creating objects that physically interact with their environment, creating something both introspective and performative.

She approaches her work intuitively, walking the line between precision and intuition. Whilst creating eloquent shapes, choices of colour and application are integral steps within Childs’ process. Transforming experiences and emotions into a language of simplified form, colour, edge, and paint applications has allowed her to simplify what are actually complicated interconnected metaphors about relationships and the world we build around us.
