Jason Tessier explores the complexity of contemporary painting via bold combination of vibrant colours and diverse mediums of his abstract works.
Jason Tessier is a London-based artist, who is known for his recognisably colourful abstract style: expressive compositions combined with sensuous colour palettes.
Tessier's work is intuitive and emerges in the moment of artistic creation. The artists experiments with material properties of the canvas as well as use of materials ranging from oils and acrylics to charcoal and pastels. Although inspired by visual information from everyday life, Tessier prefers to take a spontaneous and instinctive approach.
Works presented in his newest series Can’t Reach Me There slightly depart from the congeneric base coats by playing on subtle tonal changes and incorporating borders, while still following Tessier’s reoccurring subject matter of confronting the conventions and challenging their own limitations as paintings.
In his studio Tessier works across several pieces at a time. This technique leads to an exciting result: each of the series’ works emerges unique yet intertwined and informed by one another. That allows for them to be perceived independently as well as collectively.
The artist tries to ignore any possible external influences and trends during the creative process. Instead, he shifts his focus to both the visual and physical elements that directly speak to him, rejecting to rely on prefabricated concepts. These improvised gestures together with the bold colour choices draw the viewers into the immersive abstraction. Making everyone an active participant of this ongoing, ever-developing visual discourse.Born and raised in Worthing, Jason Tessier moved to London in 2012 to study Mixed Media Fine Art at the University of Westminster. He has been painting ever since his graduation, working in his studio in Deptford. Tessier’s work has been exhibited across the UK and in the US, most recently at the London Art Fair. His work has also been featured in such publications as Elle Decoration's ‘The Art Special’, Architectural Digest Spain and House and Garden UK.
