In this new series of original monotypes on paper, Zmpounou continues to develop her distinctive artistic language, using layered watercolours to compose works that are vibrant and rich in texture, yet tender and gentle in their imagery. Echoing techniques she explored during her sold‑out debut solo exhibition with RHODES earlier this year, the pieces evoke dreamlike states of reverie and intimacy, with figures that seem suspended between memory and reality.

Zmpounou embraces water‑based media, using accidental bleeds, translucent layers, and delicate washes to blur the line between abstraction and representation, creating a sense of fragility and emotional depth. Her work explores platonic, romantic, and familial relationships, capturing intimate moments with quiet sensitivity, from tender embraces to scenes of everyday domestic life. Solitary figures lost in thought, or families gathered around the kitchen table, are transformed through her painterly language into poetic reflections on connection. In Zmpounou’s hands, these ordinary moments are elevated and romanticised.
