Watching the City: Morag Caister

RHODES is excited to present Watching the City, a new series of original works by award-winning portrait painter Morag Caister. Bringing together a group of portraits painted from in-person sittings, the exhibition considers the space between looking and being seen, and the quiet distance that exists between one person and another.

Caister’s work is held in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery and Soho House. This year, she was invited to undertake the prestigious La Brea Studio artist residency in Los Angeles, with her work also set to be presented at Art Basel Miami in December, continuing a period of growing recognition for her practice.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to present this new series at RHODES, inviting viewers to consider what it means to look at, and truly see, another person.
