Print Release with Jihye Park

RHODES Editions' newest print marks the debut print edition for the South Korean artist

RHODES Editions presents Bonsai Collection, a new print release created in collaboration with South Korean artist Jihye Park. For the first time Park is bringing her dreamlike landscapes to print with this giclée edition.

The edition is printed on Somerset Radiant White Velvet 330gsm and finished with a hand-torn deckled edge. While giclée is a new format for Park, it preserves her strong lines and deep colour, offering a new way to experience her work - and at a more accessible price point.

Bonsai Collection depicts a fantasy realm where magic meets the real world, creating a portal to escape everyday life. The wooden shelves in the foreground hold a set of detailed bonsai trees that fade into the rocky landscape behind them. The scene blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, structure and nature, reality and fantasy.

The flat, pastel blue in the sky is broken up by detailed mountains, rocks, and bushes, enhancing the complexity of the natural forms. In front of it all lies the brown wooden shelving unit, cutting into the landscape and placing the work back in reality while situating the bonsai trees in the outdoors. This composition creates a quiet tension; the bonsai trees feel both carefully arranged and part of the wild world around them.
