Juan de la Rica's latest print, Desnudo Con Frutas Flotantes, marks his debut collaboration with RHODES Editions. While he has created prints before, this release combines his artistic skill with RHODES Editions’ practical experience in printing. His expertise in form, composition, and colour works with the combination of giclée and screenprint to bring a new level of vibrancy and depth to his work.
Desnudo Con Frutas Flotantes is based on the original artwork of the same name, and this print makes it clear that de la Rica's artistic practice translates perfectly into print. The artwork features abstracted fruit surrounding a female figure against a plane of saturated colour. Despite the lack of direct interaction between the fruit and the figure, their placement in the foreground and background creates fluidity and balance. Figures in de la Rica’s works often appear detached, yet they remain connected through the bold lines and bright, synthetic hues that define both them and their surroundings. This interaction between forms makes de la Rica’s work both dynamic and visually appealing, with eye-catching colours and striking lines.
The giclée and screenprinted gloss provide an extra layer of depth to the image, enhancing its textures and dimensions. The giclée process allows for a wide spectrum of colours, capturing the range of hues and tones seen in his work. Meanwhile, the screen-printed varnish adds a luxurious finish, highlighting the vibrancy of each colour. While the image at the centre is shining, the paper border and its hand-torn deckled edge are left entirely matte. This reflects the contrast within the composition, making every shape stand out even more vividly. With its size of 73.6 x 60 cm, this print offers a generous medium for de la Rica's work, allowing collectors to fully appreciate the details and colours.
