French painter Sandrine Lanoy is known for her quietly melancholic portraits, where figures turn inward in moments of introspection.
Trained in architecture and working in the Paris fashion and design industries, she ultimately devoted herself to painting after studying at the Beaux-Arts School and the Jean Sablé School of Decorative Painting.
Lanoy’s work captures moments of stillness that reveal the depth of inner life. Through balanced compositions and subtle colour harmonies of burnt reds, muted greens, ochres, and matte blues, Lanoy creates a world where silence takes on colour. Her figures depict emotion through subtle expressions and decorative details, highlighting the richness of our inner worlds even when we’re seemingly still.
The carefully chosen colour palettes enhance the intrigue of Lanoy’s works. While they are muted in brightness, they range widely from piece to piece. Each colour picked resonates with the mood and atmosphere of the figure it surrounds, leaving the viewer fully engulfed in the thoughts and emotions Lanoy wants to convey in her pieces.
Sandrine Lanoy worked in the fashion and design industry after studying architecture, before attending the Beaux-Arts School and the Jean Sablé School of Decorative Painting. Her works have been shown internationally, including at The Visionary Project in New York and Seefood Room in Hong Kong.
