Pelák's works critically engage with current events, reshaping traditional painting styles to reflect the realities of everyday life
Miroslav Pelák's paintings often critique social and political issues, blending modernism and social realism through a postmodern lens. His works critically engage with current events, reshaping traditional painting styles to reflect the realities of everyday life. With oversized, disproportionate silhouettes, his cubist-inspired figures reference communist-era propaganda and its lingering impact. As a Slovak artist, Pelák’s tie to Soviet-style propaganda is more personal than most.
Pelák graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, with a degree in Studio Painting. In 2020 he was chosen as a finalist for the 13th Prize of Art Critique for Young Painting in Prague. -
