Cartoonish and tender at once, Sabo invents allure through distortion.
Kevin Sabo is an American artist whose paintings examine gender, performance and power through exaggerated figures and carefully constructed scenes. Drag queens and suited men recur throughout his work, where contrasts of scale, posture and costume unsettle conventional ideas of masculinity and femininity.
Sabo’s figures combine a heightened, theatrical quality with precise composition. His use of colour and distortion gives the scenes a satirical edge, while his attention to gesture and clothing lends them an intimate, character-driven quality. Sabo has previously credited drag queens and ”bimbos” in his life for forming the basis for these characters. They are depicted in hot pinks, with sharp stilettos and exciting outfits. When compared to the men, Sabo makes it clear who is in charge, turning his works into “a way of advocating for women and queer people.”
Born in 1994, Sabo lives and works in Richmond, Virginia. His work has been presented at NADA and Untitled Art. In 2026, he took part in the PLOP Residency in London and held his second solo exhibition with RHODES.
