About the Artist: David Shrigley

David Shrigley: An Artist Profile

We would love to take a moment to reflect on David Shrigley's works, unique style and admirable art career. What is so captivating about David Shrigley's art practice is the humour and playfulness he conveys in a simple yet highly effective way.

The beauty of his works is that they aren't perfect representations of images but offer relatable motifs. The works convey statements and thoughts that bring together about what it means to be human. This satirical, unpolished style is so distant from our digital age, however their sentiments are relatable to all of us. The works echo recurring themes which offer childlike reflections of the world.

While drawing is at the centre of his practice, the artist also works across an extensive range of media including sculpture, large-scale installation, animation, painting, photography, and music.

His most recent installation offered visitors a chance to exchange tennis balls, twelve-thousand of them were included in his most recent interactive installation.

The meaning of the project will continuously change as the audience participates with the exhibit. It seems like Shrigley's works are about audience participation, whether that be physically or how the reaction of the viewer can be said to be part of the artworks themselves.
